Managing downloaded publications

Managing-downloaded-automatically.jpgManaging your newspapers and magazines is easy with PressReader. Find publications to download in the Browse tab on the app. First, tap on a publication you like, then simply select the edition you wish to download. Don’t forget, you can also add a publication to your favorites for easy access on your Publication Screen.

Once you download a publication, it appears in your downloaded tab on the app. You can change how publications are displayed by tapping the options icon in the top right corner. You can choose to display publications in a list, or grid on your smartphone. On a larger screen you can choose a list, small grid, grid or newsstand view.

When you have at least one downloaded issue in the PressReader app, then the downloaded screen will be where the app opens when you first launch it. On a tablet or larger screen, you can choose your launch screen. There are three options available: Home Feed, Downloaded, or Publications. Choose yours under Settings > General > Default Application Panel.

If you open the item at the end of the menu under Settings > Remove Issues, you can choose how long to keep issues on your device. This will help keep your storage to a minimum as the PressReader app deletes back issues for you. (This setting will not affect locked issues, only the usual downloaded issues. See how to lock an issue in the section below.)

Deleting and locking publications

Deleting-and-locking-publications.jpgSo you’ve downloaded publications onto your device and now you want to get rid of them, or make sure they are never deleted. Here’s how to do it:

Start on your Downloaded screen within the PressReader app.

Tap the icon on the top right of the screen and select Edit from the pull down options in the meu. Alternatively, press and hold on one of your downloaded publications to pull down the options as well.

From here, you can tap on your downloaded publications to manually select which ones you want to delete or lock. You can also tap the square icon to select all of your downloaded publications at once.

To delete a downloaded publication, tap the trashcan icon after selecting which ones you’d like to delete. Those issues will now be deleted and removed from your Downloaded tab on the app.

To Lock a downloaded publication, tap the lock icon after selecting which ones you’d like to keep. Locking an issue will prevent accidental deletion, so you can hold on to your favorites for later.

If you wish to delete publications automatically, tap the icon on the top right of the Downloaded screen on your app and select Remove Issues. Next, choose how many back issues you would like to keep at a time. As new editions come in, old editions will automatically be deleted first to fit within the limits you set.

Managing your devices

The exact number will depend on your subscription type, but you can have several authorized devices on your account at a time. If you have logged in to your account on several devices, you might encounter the error message "Too many activations".

Here's how to remove older devices from your account:

  1. Login to www.PressReader.com
  2. Click on your name at the top right and select "Manage Account"
  3. Scroll down the page to the last section called "PressReader Installations"
  4. Click to "Manage" older devices and select "Deauthorize" for any that you no longer use.
That's it! If you deauthorize any device accidentally, you'll just need to sign in once more when you open PressReader.
